The right answers

The 'correct' answers to each of the questions is this:

  1. At the time of the last National Census in September 2000, there were 50,517 people whose ID cards showed them to be Iban residing in Kuching Division, 8.93% of the total inhabitants (reported on the Dept of Agriculture website, http://www.doa.sarawak.gov.my/kuching/kch_backg.html, accessed 7 Oct 04).
     
  2. At the time of the by-election in April 2009, there were 35,140 registered voters in Bukit Selambau constituency (information from Borneo Post web site, 8 April 2009).
     
  3. In 2007, HSBC spent RM 487,157,000 on "Personnel Expenses", including salaries, allowances and bonuses, EPF contributions, and directors' remuneration. The number of employees was 4,996 on 31 December 2006 and 5,117 on 31 December 2007 (information from HSBC Financial Statements - December 2007). If the average number of employees through 2007 was 5,056, that works out at RM 96,352 per employee.
